Online teleprompter
An online teleprompter that runs in your browser.
Paste a script, choose how it scrolls and read it. There is nothing to install and no account, and your script stays in your own browser.
The teleprompter
Kept in your browser so a reload does not lose it.
Automatic reads the script and guesses. It looks like .
How far the highlight runs ahead of your voice.
Say “pause”, “continue”, “go back”, “start over” or “go to the end” on its own.
Space pauses. Escape leaves. Up and down move by a sentence. Tap a word to read from there.

The same three modes as the app
Voice following is the one worth trying first. The page takes the words the browser heard, finds them in your script, and moves the reading line to the word you just said. Stop talking and the text stops with you. Say an earlier line again and it scrolls back to that line. Skip a sentence and it catches up inside a couple of words. Go off script for a moment and it holds its place until you come back, so the few common words an aside shares with your text do not pull it away. That behaviour is the app's, ported rule for rule, including the matching window, the evidence a backward jump has to carry and the brake.
Sound is the mode for everything voice following cannot reach. It watches the microphone level, runs at the speed you set on the slider while it hears you, and stops about a quarter of a second after you do. It learns the room, so a fan or a café does not start it, and it holds through the gaps inside ordinary speech. Nothing is transcribed and no recogniser is involved, which is why it works in every browser and in every language.
Constant is the classic teleprompter: a rate in words per minute and no microphone at all. The start delay is a setting in every mode, this one included: the script waits for the seconds you chose before it starts.
What an online teleprompter can do, and what it cannot
Speech recognition depends on the browser. Chrome has it, Safari has it on Apple platforms, and Firefox has none. Where it is missing, Voice is switched off here. Edge and Brave offer it, but often give a web page no words back, and the page tells you when that happens.
A browser's speech recognition belongs to the browser's maker. Depending on the browser, audio may be sent to its vendor or speech-service provider to be turned into text. The iPhone app works the other way round, asking iOS for the on-device recogniser wherever your language has one. The language picker marks languages that use Apple's servers before the take; a full-screen notice can appear if on-device recognition repeatedly fails and the app falls back to Apple. The floating window shows no notice.
A browser tab cannot always sit on top of another app. In desktop browsers that support Document Picture-in-Picture, the Floating window control opens a separate prompter window that can stay above other apps. Support varies by browser and device, and this browser feature is not a replacement for the native iPhone app's floating window over Camera, Instagram or TikTok. If you are filming with your iPhone, use the iPhone app. On a Mac, Wispim for Mac keeps the script in a floating panel that stays above every app. On a Windows PC, Wispim for Windows keeps it in a floating panel above your other windows.
Your script stays with you
Nothing you type here is uploaded. The script is kept in your browser's local storage so that a refresh does not cost you an hour of writing, along with the settings above, and "Forget my script" deletes it. We have no account to attach it to and no server that would receive it. The privacy policy describes the site, including this page, in the same detail it describes the app.
Common questions
Is this online teleprompter really free?
Yes, and there is nothing to sign up for. It runs in the page you are reading, keeps your script in your own browser and sends nothing to us. The script can be as long as you like.
How does voice following know where I am?
It matches the words it heard against the words in your script and moves the reading line to the one you just said. Say a line again and it scrolls back to it. Skip a sentence and it catches up within a couple of words. Stop talking and it stops. It is the same matching the iPhone app uses, ported to JavaScript.
What is Sound mode for?
It scrolls while it hears you and stops when you stop, from the microphone level alone. Nothing is transcribed, so it works in every browser and in every language, including the ones no recogniser covers. Use it when voice following has nothing to work with.
Why is Voice greyed out in my browser?
Because that browser has no speech recognition. Chrome has it, Safari has it on Apple platforms, and Firefox has none. Edge and Brave offer it, but often give a web page no words back, and the page tells you when that happens. Sound and Constant work everywhere, and the page falls back to them.
Does it work without an internet connection?
Constant and Sound do, once the page has loaded. Voice following does not: browsers that offer speech recognition send the audio to their maker to turn it into text, so that mode needs a connection. The iPhone app asks iOS for the on-device recogniser wherever your language has one, and those languages need no connection. Where your language has none, iOS sends the audio to Apple to turn it into text; the language picker marks those languages before the take. A full-screen notice can appear if on-device recognition repeatedly fails and the app falls back to Apple. The floating window shows no notice.
Where does my script go?
Into your browser and nowhere else. It is kept in this site’s local storage so a reload does not lose your writing, it never reaches our server, and "Forget my script" removes it.
Can I use it on my phone?
You can, and it scrolls the same way. On desktop browsers that support Document Picture-in-Picture, use the Floating window control to keep the browser prompter above another app. That browser feature is not available everywhere, especially on phones; for recording in iPhone Camera, Instagram or TikTok, use the native iPhone app.

What the Wispim app adds
On an iPhone, the same voice following works in a window that floats over the Camera app, Instagram or TikTok while they record. On a Mac or a Windows PC, the script stays in a floating panel above your other windows. Recognition runs on your iPhone, iPad or Mac wherever your language supports it. Wispim for Windows follows your voice in 31 languages, and once the language's speech model has downloaded, recognition runs on the PC.
