A BIGVU alternative that is only a teleprompter

These two apps are not really competing for the same job, and the fastest way to choose between them is to notice that. BIGVU’s home page sums itself up as “Scripts in your tone, teleprompter recording or avatars, AI edits, one-click posting, and analytics” — the prompter is one station on a production line that starts at a blank page and ends at a published post with a chart next to it. Wispim is the one station, unbundled: no writer, no camera, no editor, no publisher, no account.

So the honest split is this. If the thing slowing you down is everything around the recording — writing, subtitling, resizing, scheduling — BIGVU is aimed squarely at you and Wispim will not help. If the recording itself is fine and the only broken part is that you keep glancing down at your notes, Wispim is a much smaller thing to add to a setup you already like.

Does the prompter hold the camera, or stay out of its way?

This is the difference that changes your day. BIGVU records you: you read inside their app or their browser tool, and the file comes out of their pipeline, which is also what makes the captions, the brand kit and the one-click posting possible. The cost is that your footage is shot by their recorder, under the limits their plan sets.

Wispim never takes the camera, so that trade never comes up. The script sits in a floating window on top of whatever you already shoot with, and the file lands where it always did — your app, your resolution, your length, nobody’s plan limit. What you give up is the other end of BIGVU’s pipeline: nothing captions, cuts, brands or posts the result for you. Two answers to the eye-contact problem

BIGVU’s pricing page lists “AI Eye Contact Fix” among its AI edits, applied to footage after the fact. Wispim’s answer is earlier and dumber: keep the words close enough to the lens that you never look away, and let them move at your pace so you are not chasing a scroll bar. Neither is obviously right. Correction can rescue a take that is already shot, including one where you genuinely were reading off a laptop; voice following only helps if you set it up before you press record. If you are the sort of person who shoots one take on a tripod in a kitchen, the earlier fix tends to be less work.

Where BIGVU does more

Most of the table, frankly. Their site lists an Android app and a browser tool that needs no download, so a mixed-device team or a locked-down work laptop is served and Wispim simply cannot help. Their pricing page lists a team workspace with roles, plus SSO and 2FA higher up, which is the difference between a tool for one person and a tool for a marketing department. They caption, dub, cut and post; Wispim does none of that. And their prices are published today, with a free tier whose terms you can read before you install — Wispim’s Pro pricing is not published yet, which is a real disadvantage when you are trying to plan a budget.

Who should pick BIGVU

Pick BIGVU if the video is a means to an end and you want the whole chain in one place: a first draft written for you, a recording with captions burned in, a brand kit so every clip matches, and the post scheduled without a second app. Pick it if you are not on an iPhone, if a colleague needs their own seat, if you record at a desk in a browser, or if you already have footage that needs fixing rather than a next take that needs prompting. Those are not consolation prizes; they are the whole reason the product exists.

Pick Wispim if the rest of that chain is already handled or already unwanted — you write your own words, the edit happens elsewhere or not at all, the post goes up by hand — and the single unsolved part is that you cannot read and look at the lens at the same time.
