Mac

A teleprompter for Mac that sits above your call.

Your script reads in a floating panel that stays above every app, so you can read it during a call, a presentation or a recording. Put it under the camera and it snaps there.

Download on the Mac App Store 6 free takes. Mac, macOS 13 or later.

A panel that stays above every app

Start a take in the floating panel and it stays above the windows of every other app, on every desktop, full-screen apps included. Switching to your call app leaves the panel where it is and the take running.

Drag the panel anywhere, and drag its edges to make it any size. It snaps to the edges of the screen and to the spot under the camera, so your eyes stay close to the lens. Pin to camera keeps it there until you drag it away, and on each display it reopens where you left it.

Wide, Tall or Strip

The panel comes in three shapes: Wide, Tall and Strip. Strip is a thin band of one or two lines, meant to sit just under the camera. The text is the take’s own, so ⌘+ and ⌘− change its size in the window and in the panel together. In Settings you can also make the panel’s background more or less see-through.

Shortcuts that work in any app

⌃⌥P pauses and resumes the take, ⌃⌥F hides and shows the panel, and ⌃⌥T lets your clicks pass through the panel to the app behind it. They work whichever app is in front, and they need no extra permission. You can change each one in Settings.

The Wispim menu in the menu bar has the same commands.

Which mode to use on a call

Wispim scrolls in three ways. Voice follows the words you say, Sound moves while it hears you talk, and Constant scrolls at a speed you set. Voice following works in every language your iPhone or Mac can recognise.

For a call, plan around Constant, because it needs no microphone. Whether Voice keeps following while a call app is using the microphone has not been tested, so this page does not promise it. The page on video calls goes through the rest of a call.

Recognition runs on your Mac where your language supports it. For other languages the audio goes to Apple to be converted to text, and the language list marks those languages before you start.

What is free, and what Pro adds

The free app gives you 6 prompter takes and unlimited scripts. Pro removes the take limit and adds import from TXT, Markdown, PDF, DOCX and RTF. One purchase covers iPhone, iPad and Mac when they use the same Apple Account. Pro also keeps your script library on your iPhone and your Mac through your own iCloud.

Wispim for Mac needs macOS 13 Ventura or later and runs on Apple silicon and Intel. It is the same App Store listing as the iPhone and iPad app. On an iPhone, the floating window stays on top of Camera, Instagram or TikTok while you record.

Questions

Which Macs does Wispim run on?

A MacBook or any other Mac with macOS 13 Ventura or later, with Apple silicon or Intel. Wispim for Mac is on the same App Store listing as the iPhone and iPad app.

Will the script follow my voice during a call?

That has not been tested, so we will not promise it. The panel stays above your call either way. For a call, choose Constant: it scrolls at the speed you set and needs no microphone.

Do I have to buy Pro again for the Mac?

One purchase covers iPhone, iPad and Mac, as long as they are signed in to the same Apple Account.

Does my speech leave my Mac?

Recognition runs on your Mac where your language supports it. For other languages the audio goes to Apple to be converted to text, and the language list marks those languages before you start. Your scripts, their titles, the transcripts and the audio are never sent to us. The privacy policy has the detail.
