Real recording, no cuts

A screen recording from an iPhone. The Wispim floating window sits at the top of the screen, on top of the Camera app, which is recording the person speaking. The line they are reading is blue, and it moves down the script as they talk.

What does Wispim do?

Wispim is a teleprompter for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Windows whose script follows your voice. It scrolls itself as you speak, so you can look at the lens instead of down at your notes. On iPhone and iPad it can sit in a floating window on top of the app you are filming with, and on a Mac or a Windows PC in a panel above your call.

Does it work with the Camera app, Instagram and TikTok?

Yes, on iPhone. Put the script in the floating window, then open the app you film with: the window stays on top while you record and voice following keeps going. Tested with Camera, Instagram and TikTok. If another app does take the microphone, the text holds on the word you reached and the window says “Mic busy”. Wispim keeps asking for the microphone back and carries on from that word as soon as it has it.

Does my speech stay on my device?

Recognition runs on your iPhone, iPad or Mac wherever your language supports it. Where your language has no on-device model, your device sends the audio to Apple to convert it to text. The language picker marks those languages before you start. On iPhone, a full-screen notice can appear if on-device recognition repeatedly fails and the app falls back to Apple; the floating window shows no notice. On a Windows PC, recognition runs on the PC once the language’s speech model has been downloaded, in 31 languages. Microsoft online speech is optional and starts switched off: if you turn it on, Microsoft recognises a language that has no model on the PC, over the internet. Your scripts, your audio and the transcripts are never sent to us. The privacy policy has the detail.

Are my scripts on every iPhone and Mac I use?

With Wispim Pro, yes. Your library is kept in your own iCloud, so every iPhone and Mac signed in to your Apple Account opens the same scripts, and an edit on one appears on the others. That copy sits in your Apple Account and against your iCloud storage. We cannot read it and it never reaches us. You can switch the sync off in Settings, which deletes nothing, and a separate action removes the iCloud copy when you want it gone. On the free tier your scripts stay on the device you wrote them on.

What does Wispim cost?

Free gives you 6 prompter takes, and every prompter feature is in it: floating window, voice following and voice commands. A take is any start of the prompter, full screen or in the floating window, in any mode; the number of scripts you keep is not limited on either tier. Pro removes the take limit and adds import from TXT, Markdown, PDF, DOCX and RTF: $9.99 a month, $69.99 a year, or $199.99 once. Prices in USD; your store shows local pricing. On Windows, Pro is sold in the Microsoft Store at the same prices, and Pro bought in one store works only in the apps from that store.

Can I move the floating window with my finger?

No. iOS does not let a window like this accept touch, and that is why the voice commands and the volume buttons exist. The buttons are marked Experimental, and they do not work inside camera apps, which take them for the shutter. It snaps to a corner the way Picture in Picture does. You pick Wide, Tall or Strip, a thin band two lines deep, and set its side margins. Before the take, “Rotate text” turns the words a quarter turn at a time, so they sit the right way up under the lens on a rig. The text size follows the script’s own, scaled to the window.

Do I need an account?

No. There is nothing to sign up for and no sign-in anywhere in the app. Purchases go through the App Store, or through the Microsoft Store on Windows.
